Hello, citizens!
Here's the art. . .
It's official. Our household is one short now. I took my daughter to the bus station this week so she could head off to college early and go on a five day hike through the mountains before classes start. Putting her on a bus wasn't the way I imagined her leaving for school, but we're driving up next week with her junk, so the bus made more sense. She arranged it all, and I tried not to take over. We got to the greyhound ticket booth to pick up the ticket she bought online, and I realized that I didn't need to speak for her anymore. She's got it handled. Well, sort of. She had made the reservation for July 18th instead of August 18th, so we were actually a month late for the bus ride she had reserved. But that all got worked out, and she rambled into her new college town with her backpack on like the legend of Bob Dylan. . .but looking more like Tina Fey in a feel good summer movie about camping. We're so happy for her!
Our son is feeling the weight of band camp on his sunburned shoulders. In movies, there's just a montage to show a band slowly getting better. But in reality, it takes time and practice practice practice, which they are doing plenty of. He's in the drum line, and they're sounding better everyday. One nearby neighbor to the school raved, "Do you realize it's 8:30 in the mother f-ing morning?"
High praise indeed.

Hello, friends.
Here's the art. . .
Just as one family of art is ready to depart our home. . .

. . .another group shows up at the door with blank looks on their faces. . .

I'm sure Jo will take them under her wing and sort them out before sending them off into the world. We're about to unleash our daughter onto the world as well next week as she goes off to college. Jo and Kaity are out shopping for school stuff now. It's better that I don't go. I have a hobo's mentality about spending money. "New shoes! What's wrong with duct taping newspapers to your feet like everyone else?"

Hiya, kids!
Back by popular demand, we have some raindrop ornaments as well as some cloud ornaments listed on etsy.

And we have a one-of-kind Halloween piece that can be found here.

And the rest of our art, as usual, found here.

My parents are visiting us this week. They have a house in Satellite Beach, Florida, but they are currently living and working in New Orleans. I've known them a long time, and they've known each other even longer. Today is their 40th wedding anniversary in fact. Nice round numbers seem to stick out for some reason. On their 20th anniversary, my brother was at the Air Force Academy, and I was on vacation with my parents in New Orleans. None of us had a clue back then that they would one day live there. My memories from that trip include listening to books on tape to fulfill my English reading requirements for my upcoming senior year of high school. I played them at high speed to further conserve my valuable time. I also remember trying to lure a giant river rat closer to me with a warm beignet.
I'm one of those rare people that had an ideal childhood. Just the sounds of my parents' voices in the house is one of the most calming things to me, even today. It takes me back to being a kid, lying in bed trying to fall asleep with my Dad's booming voice and my Mom's heartfelt laugh in the next room. It's one of my favorite things to hear, which is why I put their voices, taken off an old home video, at the beginning of my music video for "Old Ghost." It's a detail I put in for my own enjoyment. If you haven't seen it yet, or if you want to watch it again and listen for Jim and Leslie Curry, here 'tis.
